Asian Antique ~ Thai Panel for Buddha Figure ~ Buddhist 19th Thailand

Description

Up for grabs is a beautiful antique Buddha Panel or Backdrop originally situated in a niche in a Buddhist temple in Thailand.  It is solid 1" thick Teak and has carving around the perimeter and the center has an earthy and rich red lacquered finish.  Stylized flames project from the panel as indeed is it's subject.  Gold leaf detail highlights still visible on certain details if you look closely.  It measures about 44" tall and 27" max. width. A few holes where Buddha figure was attached to the panel originally with wooden pegs is visible in several locations in the panel which to me adds to it's authenticity and interest.
Condition overall is very good for age.  Some termite damage along edges in several areas.
I purchased it many years ago from the McGuire furniture/antique showroom in San Francisco.  The McGuire's traveled and collected I think particularly in S.E. Asia probably starting in the early 50's or earlier.  Asian design influence is readily seen in the furniture they manufactured in their family business in San Francisco.  (McGuire furniture is still being manufactured; although, I think it is no longer family owned.)
