Indium is a very soft, silvery-white metal with a low melting point of 156.60 ° C. The indium resources available worldwide are estimated at 16,000 t. However, only about two thirds of this is economically degradable. Elemental indium is very rare, so it is almost exclusively obtained as a by-product in the production of zinc or lead from sulfidic ores.
